Intro
Hey there, back with another educational thread for you all!
In this thread I will talk about journaling, covering how to get started, how to journal correctly and discuss the health benefits.
For many, journaling is a powerful and mandatory personal development tool, which basically means writing down your thoughts, feelings, progress and more, so you can remember them better and later on take a pause from everyday life and reflect on what you've written down. It's a nice little safe space to confess your struggles and fears without the fear of anyone judging you. If you struggle with mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD and so, journaling might help you out a lot!
Benefits of Journaling
Mental Clarity
If you're someone like me or someone who struggles with ADHD and concentration problems, journaling is the perfect tool for you! It helps clear your mind and organize your thoughts, ultimately resulting in lower stress levels! Looking back on what you've written down will help you realize what you did wrong and what you did right and will help you achieve your goals more easily and make better decisions in the future!
Memory Improvement
If you journal regularly, chances are your memory will drastically improve over time! Writing down things can also help with your focus and other cognitive functions!
Manage Depression & Anxiety
Writing down your feelings can feel therapeutic. Whether you're having a problem or struggling with mental health, keeping a journal can help you identify the causes of your stress and the triggers of negative thoughts. Once you've identified these stressors, it's much easier to get back on track towards a better life!
Boost Your Creativity
It can also boost your creativity. By unloading your thoughts and later looking back on them, it can help you think of new ways to cope with everyday problems and stress, making you more creative!
Goal Setting
By writing down your goals and dividing them into smaller parts, it becomes way easier to stick to the plan and achieve your goals!
Self Reflection
Being self aware is very important, and because journaling is such a powerful tool, it encourages introspection and will help you understand your feelings and thoughts better!
How To Journal
Set Your Method
Firstly, decide on whether you want to journal on a piece of paper, or your PC/laptop/phone. I find journaling on paper way better as this way I get to take my eyes off the screen, and writing with a pen just seems more peaceful. But whatever works best for you :)
Create A Routine
Set a time for when you will journal and stick to it. I journal at night before bed and I find it the most effective way. Sometimes I will write things down in the middle of the day if I have a feeling I will forget my current thoughts. Again, choose what works best for you.
Keep It Private
Remember, your journal is your safe space. Keep this hidden from anyone else. This is a tool for self-improvement, not a self-help book for others.
Be Honest
As I said, your journal is only yours. So there is no need to sugarcoat anything. The more honest you are, the more helpful it will be.
Write Down EVERYTHING
This is your own self-help book, so whatever you feel that you will find helpful later, write it down. Ideas, thoughts, rants, go for it!
Review Oftenly
Don't just write things down and forget about it. Keep reviewing what you've written down so you can keep a better track of your thoughts and feelings, and use it to combat negative things!
Outro
Give journaling a try, you've got nothing to lose. This world is hard enough, and you should utilize anything that might help you lead a better life. Journaling has helped me a lot throughout the years, it has calmed me down in many situations and it has given me insight on how to proceed in making myself a better person.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
Love you all!
