Depression
One of the world's largest most well known, yet misunderstood diseases. Many of you reading this may be a victim of this awful, confusing, painful, disease. But, you shouldn't let it control your life. Because YOU are strong.
Maintaining a stable life with depression can be hard, but it is something that is vital. Depression can lead to someone doing many, many unthinkable actions upon themselves, upon others, or both. We won't discuss that as it is a very sensitive subject. So, keeping your life steady with chronic, severe, or even just moderate depression. The first step down the process of battling depression is accepting the fact you are depressed, and that you do want to change. This is the problem which so many before me, have suffered and dealt with. Once you can look yourself in the mirror, and accept you are ready to change, we start our process. Ask yourself this, do you have a job? Do you have true friends? Do you want to get a better job, better friends, or both? If you said yes to any of these, then keep listening.
Once you've accepted that you're depressed and that you're ready to change, its time to actually start doing something about it. Firstly, if you don't have a job and are young (16-24), do yourself a favor and start off small. Get a simple job at a fast-food restaurant near you. If it needs to be within walking distance, well do exactly that. One of the problems which many people seem to struggle with is understanding that you can't just "make it big", or "get rich fast". Start off small, make some new friends with your newly found coworkers. You'd be surprised how much of a difference they can make.
So, you've got a job, you've got friends, now what? Well, talk with your friends more often. Hang out with them, get a friend who you can trust to not back-stab you, someone you can discuss your problems with. Talk to them, let them in your life, but don't overwhelm them or seek attention. The more your friend knows about you, the more they can help you, the closer you get.
Obviously we can't discuss maintaining a stable life without therapy/counseling coming into the question. I know what you might be thinking, "oh I don't need that", well here is the thing. If you and everyone else didn't need it, it wouldn't be such a thriving business. These people exist because they are professionals at their jobs, they are there to help YOU.
This is just the first step into a long, lengthy process of battling depression, and keeping a stable life, but it's a very important first step into it. There are many options for counseling, therapy, etc. which can both be paid, or free. There are services out there to help with the problems you may be suffering from. It doesn't matter if it was some sort of trauma, or if it is just because you're alone, or whatever your case may be. Some of the world's greatest comedians, song artists, painters, and even writers actually have suffered from depression, just like you have. Unfortunately, we lose some of these wonderful people due to depression, but that's why this is here. To help you get on your feet again, and to help you grab complete control of your life!
