[CC | GFX Tutorial] Raster Image (.png) to Vector Image (.esp) in Photoshop [With Pictures | Win10]
Posted Nov 22, 2019 10:27 AM
Hello guys, today I will be teaching you how to take a Raster image in photoshop and turn it into a Vector image available for usage in Illustrator! This might not work with ALL images, some will require more work and dedication to have it come out perfect. For the most part though this works very well and is extremely useful!
For this tutorial I will be usual the letters HF with the font Bebas Neue. This will transfer nicely because it has straight sides and sharp edges.
Step #1:
Select the layer you want to make into a vector. For me I will be selecting the layer "HF":

Next, hold CTRL and click the box inside that very layer.
(Where mine has the big HF)
When you do that it should outline your layer like so:

Once you do that, click the rectangular tool
then right click the image and click 'Make Work Path...'
Spoiler (Click to View)
Make sure tolerance is "1.0" and click okay
Now as you can see we have a work path

Step #2:
Now after you have your work path, you need to click the Direct Selection Tool.

Now right click the image again and select Create Vector Mask

Now as you can see you have a vector mask around the image:

Now when you resize in illustrator you won't have any problems with distortion or pixelation.
Step #3:
Now all you have to do is save it as Photoshop ESP (.esp).
You can now open in illustrator and use it just like any other vector shape!
Final Product:
