Often times people get confused by the quality of VPNs, so let's break it down.

Public VPNs:
Benefits:
Easy to find: Public VPNs are many - they're available to lots of people. So, public VPNs are easy to find and use.

Cost-Effective: Cheap or even free. Because it's public, it won't cost you much and many public VPNs have free versions or long trials.

Variety of Choices: Because there are many public VPN providers, you can pick the one that suits your needs best.

Cons:
Less Privacy: Since public VPNs are open and used by many people, you will have less privacy because the IPs are shared.

Limited Control: You can't control everything with public VPNs, you will have much less control over features and settings. You also won't know exactly how the VPN is operated or how many people use it.

Security Concerns: Some public VPNs may not be as secure. Public VPNs are widely recognized and blocked a lot. Public VPNs might not always keep your online activities completely safe.

Private VPNs:
Benefits:
More Control: When something is private, you know who uses it. Private VPNs give you more control because you decide who gets to use them.

Higher Security: Private VPNs are usually safer because you can set up stronger features and rules. Private VPNs can be more secure because you control their safety measures and everything backend.

Tailored for Specific Needs: Private VPNs can be customized to fit your exact needs. Private VPNs can be designed to meet specific security or performance requirements. This is especially useful if you're a nerd or an ethical hacker who needs a specific setup.

Cons:
Costly: Private VPNs can be very expensive because you're in charge of everything and the only or one of the only users. It's like having your own private VPS or dedicated server; it costs a lot to take care of everything.

Complex to Set Up: Setting up private VPNs can be a bit tricky. Private VPNs require effort to create and maintain. You will need to be able to code or find someone who is.

May Be Overkill: Sometimes, private VPNs are overkill. If you don't have super important stuff to protect, a private VPN might be too much. If you just want to watch Netflix, it's not required to set up a private VPN.
