Rate My Graphic Re-Vamp

The Rate My Graphic section has been filled with LQP and posts to increase post count for countless years and nothing has ever been done and a blind-eye has been turned to the section.

1. A Title Change
Regarding what Buzz Lightyear stated:
Quote:With the name "Rate my Graphic", it causes users to "rate" a piece using an arbitrary number system, with no basis or little reasoning. I believe that it should be renamed to something like "Graphic Critique", "Graphic Showcase and Discussion", or something along those lines, to discourage the use of numerical ratings, and to increase post quality in that subsection.

Why should you not use an arbitrary scale:

1) It does not help the artist in terms of where to improve.
The artist should be told:
-What makes the piece interesting?
-What do you find enjoyable about the piece?
-What seems like a weak area in their piece?
-What are potential ways to improve their piece?

2) Most people who post in the section put no basis behind their rating. Someone might rate a piece "7/10, I love it", but then give no reason behind deducting three points from their rating.

3) Even without a number rating, comments such as "it look good", do not help the artist, but rather boost their ego. Compliments are not wrong, but when artists get no constructive criticism, it hurts the artist.

"Rating" is not helpful to the artist, and at the same time it makes you look like you don't have any idea what you are talking about. Many people who post their work get offended at the first person that doesn't give them a "10/10" on their work. Changing the name would promote higher quality posts and more critique, preventing future tensions caused by offended artists.

Critiquing a piece is much higher quality and much more helpful than rating a piece.

Now you must be wondering. "Why is this a huge deal?"
Here's why:
1) Half the comments in there can be reported for LQ content. They contain one liners like "Nice job OP" or "10/10 looks good".
2) The section is used by individuals to easily increase their post count, number system or not.

I think it would be most beneficial to the artist, and for the sake of quality in the graphics section, to rename that subsection.

Thank you.

Another thread by Buzz Lightyear regarding the issue:

The name "Rate My Graphic" should be abolished and a new title such as "Critique My Art" implanted, thus not relying on the rating system which is the cause of most LQP and having users express why they dislike or like the pieces.

2. A Possible Section Moderator
Since this section is never dealt with, a section moderator with knowledge in the field should be considered. Posts such as "Looks great 10/10!!" would be removed and looked down upon. The section is in desperate need for some sort of authority. Most people that post in the section have little to no knowledge in this field.

My thread here can also be referred to.
Thanks.
I'm all for this. The RMG section is overdue for reform. Many have tried to better the section, none have succeeded.
I'm all for this as well.
Serious vouch from me.
This has been a plague since 2009.
The entire section really is just a huge loophole for shit posting and I feel like we have a chance at a really nice art community here.
Yep I'm fully behind this. The fact that I can go on the section now and probably submit 50+ LQP reports in 10 minutes suggests something's wrong with it. This is a really good plan to sort it out, because it's a huge mess right now; it's filled with people who have no interest in the graphics and barely even look at them, instead just posting arbitrary numbers to boost their post count.

that is a bandaid fix, if you do that then even the people serious about art will not want to post threads or comments on anyone's work.

Your registration date reads 2014? How would you know what the section was like in '09?

On-topic: I'm for this change as the subforum is host to numerous low quality posts. The name of the subforum basically encourages weak replies that usually consist of "nice work 8/10".

Why?
If you're serious about art, it should not matter wether posting will give a +1 to your count.
I mean if you're really serious about art why should you care for such a feature and not just enjoy peoples art and help them improve it?

Seems like a good fix to me.

A +1 for each post would be nice too.

So you're bitching about people using it for post count but you are doing it yourself as well? Correct me if I'm wrong your post made zero sense.

Well I can tell you're a multi-accounter (trust scan too, lol fred?).
I'm saying that yes, you should post there if you care about art. People who post there for solely post count purposes are those who need to be punished. For the people who do post there and are serious about art, post count is a nice addition.

I agree, but there is no way you're going to stop them unless you take away what they're doing it for.

I would suggest you continue to report the post(s) which purposely lack quality, they will be dealt with.

I still think the idea of a section moderator would be beneficial.
I support, RMG needs total revamp.
