Purple Bacteria to the Rescue
A new method of purifying water seems fairly promising. You now may be wondering what is wrong with the way we do things currently. The plants we have now are large and have a decently sized carbon footprint. This new procedure would only require these purple bacteria as well as electrical currents to achieve the same thing. According to one of the author of the study, Daniel Puyol of Spain’s King Juan Carlos University, this method should have "essentially zero carbon footprint" which is very good for all of us. There is a lengthy question and answer with the author on the source page if anyone is biologically inclined. I would recommend giving it a read. >>Source

Tricking a Virus Into Working for Us
Researchers from the University of Oxford have managed to trick a virus into targeting cancerous cells. Not only that, but the virus also targets the surrounding area meaning it would prevent further spreading. According to the team, it is "the first time cancer-associated fibroblasts within solid tumors have been specifically targeted in this way." As with most studies of this nature, much further testing is required before anything fruitful could come of this. The initial results are fairly promising, however, with the team going on to say "Our new technique to simultaneously target the fibroblasts while killing cancer cells with the virus could be an important step towards reducing immune system suppression within carcinomas and should kick-start the normal immune process." Immunotherapy could certainly be something to keep a look out for in the coming years. >>Source

United Kingdom to continue with Brexit - how does it affect you?
The European Union has established itself as one of the most arguably powerful coalitions in the world, although it is about to lose a major component, the United Kingdom. Rippled implications are expected and are being anticipated upon the abandonment of the UK. It may sound familiar, but you may not entirely know what it is or the effects that it carries. Essentially, "Britain + exit = Brexit." Brexit is the once unthinkable decision to remove themselves from the European Union. Many thought this would never fall through, however, after a hard-fought process, those Pro-Brexit prospered. Some may be unaware of what this entails, and that is perfectly fine. In the end, no effect is too drastic, unless you're in The United Kingdom or live in a European nation.

For nations in Europe, you have it worst; European countries have the most to lose on many different levels. Let's start with UK exports. Nearly half of all UK exports go to the EU and over half of the imports come from 27 different countries in the group. With the finalization of Brexit, it is almost guaranteed that trade deals will most certainly be renegotiated. In terms of military, the United Kingdom does not lack in that field, which causes the EU to lose a serious a superpower. "Whenever Europe's done something useful on that front, the UK -- a serious military power -- has often been in the driver's seat." As you would expect, all countries react differently, but the influence of EU members will more than likely keep views aligned.

The United States does not have it nearly as tough as European countries, however it will not go unscathed. United States President Donald Trump has been no easy critic of the European Union, so some are worried that this may further unravel the union, causing more instability to be presented. Additionally, the United Kingdom is "America's seventh-biggest trading partner." Some question the decision, though there has not been much talk regarding potential tariffs that the United Kingdom could introduce upon leaving. If revealed, President Trump's take on the situation will be one to keep an eye on, seeing that he is a pretty strict critic on the country as is. >>Source

CIA concludes Saudi crown prince ordered Jamal Khashoggi’s assassination
After weeks of being in the headlines on every news site imaginable, the attention only continues to flow and increase regarding the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul during October of this year. The Saudi government has continuously turned down these allegations, stating that they had no involvement in the slaying, however the Central Intelligence Agency disagrees. In their recent assessment, CIA officials say "they have high confidence" in the linking of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to this operation. The Trump administration is not too pleased with this finding, as this complicated the effort to continue a relationship with this close ally. "A team of 15 Saudi agents flew to Istanbul on government aircraft in October and killed Khashoggi inside the Saudi Consulate, where he had gone to pick up documents that he needed for his planned marriage to a Turkish woman." To reach the conclusion, CIA officers examined several sources. One is a phone call from the prince's brother Khalid bin Salman, Saudi ambassador to the US where he and Khashoggi had a conversation regarding the necessary papers for his wife-to-be, ultimately ending in the assassination of the journalist in the Saudi embassy.

As of now, it is not of 100-percent certainty that Khalid was aware that Khashoggi would be killed, though it is known that the call was made at his brother's demand, "which was intercepted by US intelligence." Fatimah Baeshen, a spokeswoman for the Saudi Embassy in Washington, said the ambassador and Khashoggi never discussed any details regarding Turkey. The spokeswoman took a jab at the CIA by adding that the 'purported assessment is false. We have and continue to hear various theories without seeing the primary basis for these speculations.' The ultimate conclusion was further based on the CIA's assessment of the prince's role as the "de facto ruler who oversees even minor affairs in the kingdom." With that being known, a US official said there is absolutely no way that he was unaware of this situation in the slightest. The CIA sees Mohammed as an asset and 'good technocrat,' however they have also expressed their grief over his volatility and arrogance, describing him as somebody who 'goes from zero to 60' far too often and is blind to the fact that there are some things you simply can't do as a man that holds the power he does. Analysts from the CIA believe he "has a firm grip on power and is not in danger of losing his status as heir to the throne" even after the public relations nightmare regarding Khashoggi. >>Source

Op-ed:
Stan Lee, a genius behind Marvel Comics, dead at 95
If you've not yet heard of Stan Lee's death, then I question how you live your life. The famed journalist has passed at the ripe age of 95 this past week. Stan Lee revolutionized modern day pop culture, starting from the 1960s, and it is going to be my honor (and I hope everybody else's as well) to live throughout his legacy. I would put my life on it that you've heard of at least one of his movies, whether it be Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, or any of his other blockbuster movie franchises. This entertainment can all be credited to Stan Lee. He first started in an office on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, New York in the 1960s. This incredible man helped develop one of the most famous and well known lineups in pop-culture history. Mr. Lee was a key component to Marvel Comics; to some, he was the sole embodiment of Marvel and Marvel Comics. He served as a writer, editor, publisher, and executive.

Stan Lee will die a forever legend.

Bitcoin drops 13% in a matter of hours
On November 14th, Bitcoin dropped 13 percent. During the dip, Bitcoin reached an all-year low of $5,300. Many traders speculate that the dip is a result of investors pulling funds out of Bitcoin, in order to put them into Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Bitcoin Cash is currently experiencing a "fork," which is a change to the protocol of the coin that creates two versions of the blockchain with a shared history. Investors are shoveling money into the two coins in anticipation of a spike in price for each of them. >>Source

Blockchain-focused gaming studio "Mythical Games" raises $16 million in funding
Mythical Games is a game studio who focuses on the in-game currencies and assets that players acquire or purchase. Instead of digital ownership backed by centralized servers, they focus on decentralized games that are created on the blockchain. This sort of system allows in-game currencies and assets to keep their value, even if the company goes out of business or they take their servers down. Mystic Games recently announced that it raised $16 million in funding from various capital firms. The studio is comprised of talented individuals who used to work for Blizzard, Activision, and other well-known companies. While there are already games operating on similar structures, Mystic Games could break new ground when it reveals its first offerings.>>Source

Voxox database containing real-time account recovery info was leaked
Voxox, a provider of wholesale SMS, Business VOIP, and cloud communication recently experienced a database leak. Berlin-based researcher and analyst Sébastien Kaul used Shodan, a public search engine for databases and servers to obtain the information. The public nature of the databases on Shodan made it possible for anyone to view the Voxox database. The leak revealed two-factor codes and account recovery links being sent in near real-time. The speed at which Kaul could obtain the data shows that attackers could have easily used this exploit to gain access to users' accounts. Before posting it publicly, Kaul alerted Voxox about the issue. The company took the database offline immediately, and they are looking into the problem in order to find a solution. This fiasco is another excellent example of why security analysts have spoken out against the use of SMS for two-factor authentication for years. >>Source

TOPIC: What do you think about the new Awards Market feature? Are you going to use it? If so, what awards would you buy?

"As awards are in their current state, I don't see the reason why you should buy them. They provide no benefit and it feels weird having someone else's trophy when you didn't do anything but buy it."
~Dadd

"I think it's a nice addition to the forums. However, I don't think people who want to buy them with bytes have enough capital from just forum activities to buy them, and a lot of people who sell awards would rather settle for cash instead."
~Anonymous

TOPIC: What was your favorite feature that was added to HF this year?

"My favorite feature is the separate Marketplace Reputation. With this, we can see the users actual history dealing with others on the website this makes it safer than what it was before."
~Dadd

"I liked the idea of games being added to HF. Slots were cool. Blackjack was better. It’s only a matter of time before more hack related games start popping up."
~Anonymous

"Signature market."
~Anonymous

TOPIC: Do you see the price of Bytes increasing or decreasing in the future?

"It would depend on the things we are able to do with them. I do see it increasing in the future because of how they were set up from the start. The new features they add would ultimately decide by how much they increase."
~Dadd

"As more people post or donate for bytes, the required amount to do anything with them will only ride. Since bytes are basically fiat currency, Omni can give as many as he wants out at a time, you either have to stay ahead of the curve or you will never have enough for anything."
~Anonymous

"Decreasing."
