We're Safe!
Fears this week of a compromise have finally calmed as it has been discovered what sparked this scare was a bug with the IP history system that Hack Forums uses, brought up by someone attempting to steal accounts. If nothing else, it demonstrates how quickly the forum can lock down in cases such as this and how important it is to protect your account. >>Source

Site Performance Hit
As a security measure against the suspected breach, many tweaks were made to the site's configuration against harmful traffic. It seems any number of these tweaks has resulted in site load times painfully slow to finish. It will take some time to identify the exact cause of the slump in performance but we ask you remain patient until then. >>Source

MoTM Suspended
The popular MoTM (Member of the Month) contest has been suspended following Froggy’s resignation from running the nominations and polls. The contest was previously suspended in March 2015 for several months over drama after running almost uninterrupted for over six years. It does not appear we will see it make another return. >>Source

Russia Offers Aid to Canada
The Canadian province of Alberta has been dealing with the massive Fort McMurray fire which started May 1, 2016. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it has burned over 495,000 acres as of May 8, 2016. Due to the magnitude of the blaze, Russia has offered to help with some water bombers and fire fighting specialists. As of the date the offer was extended, the Canadian government has yet to respond. The two countries have been in a diplomatic standstill since Russia's annexation of Crimea. However, the prime minister of Canada has mentioned that he would like a constructive relationship with Putin's government. The Canadian government is making studies before they conclude whether to accept or reject the offer by Russia.

France Pushes for Global Regulation of Medicine Prices
Due to the rising prices of prescription medication, France will make an effort to convince its fellow G7 members to regulate medicine costs. This effort on France's part is due to their campaign to make life-saving drugs more accessible to the general population. The topic is on the G7 agenda for later this month, but will also be discussed in September with pharmaceutical companies potentially joining that conversation as well. Medicine costs and the patent system for medication have recently received more criticism, especially in developing countries. The G7 nations are home to most of the pharmaceutical companies, so a regulatory change among these nations would have very noticeable effect on drug prices.

Wife of Iceland's President Linked to Tax Evasion
Dorrit Moussaieff, the wife of Iceland's president, has recently come under scrutiny due to leaked HSBC documents revealing her association to offshore companies and trusts registered outside the UK. This leak comes as part of the Panama Papers, which show her with some investment in the British Virgin Islands. Even more, documents reveal that the first lady is supposed to receive offshore inheritance when her mother dies. Lawyers of Moussaieff and a spokesperson for the president claim the couple have never been aware of each other's financial affairs. President Grímsson, Iceland's president, has previously spoken against offshore structures in his campaign leading up to next month's election.

Comcast Agrees to Raise Data Cap Limit for Internet Customers
The popular American Internet service provider has now spoken out about the current limitations they have imposed for their users. Previously, Comcast capped their customers 300GB of data per month. When the customer exceeds their monthly limit, they have an overage charge of $10 per each 50GB of data. As of now, Comcast have increased their data cap to 1TB. Users also have the option to pay an extra $50/month to have an unmetered plan or pay the traditional $10 per each 50GB overage fee. These changes will take effect by June 1.

FBI Paid Less Than $1M for iPhone Hack and Dropped Court Case With Apple
When you purchase something, you would want to know how it works, right? This does not seem to be a part of the FBI's concern when looking to get into locked iPhones. Originally, observers estimated that the FBI paid around $1.3 million, but at a later time, a figure of around $1 million was to be reported. The FBI purchased this hack from an undisclosed security company is also capable of getting through any security measures on the iPhone 5C models that are running the newest Apple software. Prior to the purchase of this hack, the courts demanded for Apple to create a backdoor to bypass their encrypted software. Apple refused which led many people to support the company for their decision in court; however, the case was dropped shortly after the hack was purchased.

US government wants your Facebook data -- without your knowledge
With recent events such as the FBI wanting to get into locked iPhone devices, it definitely has brought up the question: What type of information does the government have access to? It appears that the government is receiving more than just information on a few iPhone devices. In the "Global Government Requests Report" that Facebook releases semi-annually, there was around a 13 percent rise in requests from government compared to the first half of the 2015 year. The government requested information from Facebook 46,763 times in the second half of the 2015 year.

Fallout 4's Third and Largest Expansion Pack Gets a Release Date
Bethesda announced the release date for their third and largest DLC for Fallout 4 entitled Far Harbor. Far Harbor will launch globally for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 19 for $25. The trailer can be viewed here. The expansion takes place in the post-apocalyptic version of Maine's booming tourist hot spot, Bar Harbor. The DLC begins with Detective Valentine getting a new case that leads you on a search for a missing woman in a secret colony of synths. When you arrive to Far Harbor you are alerted to the fact that the higher levels of radiation have created a more feral world than you are accustomed to. Players will be introduced to more "lethal" creatures, but will also receive higher level equipment to help you slay them in your pursuit of bringing peace to Far Harbor. Bethesda also teased fans to "stay tuned" for more to come. It is speculated that they will share more exciting news at their E3 briefing this in June. On the more immediate horizon, Bethesda will be introducing mods previously only available on PC to consoles. The "Creation Kit" currently available to PC gamers allows them to tinker with most aspects of the game. They can edit quests, characters, weapons, dialog, and much more. Some of the PC mods will become available for Xbox One this May and will follow for PS4 in June.

Dead Island: Definitive Collection Trailer
Deep Silver released a facetious trailer for the Definitive Collection Edition of Dead Island that is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC this May 31. The Definitive Collection will include remastered versions of the original Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It will also feature a mini-game entitled Retro Revenge. The Definitive Collection Edition will be available for physical and digital purchase on May 31 for $40. On the same day, Deep Silver will release the remastered versions of Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide separately for $20 each. In other news, Dead Island 2 has pulled through developmental hell and has resumed development under Sumo Digital. Deep Silver has teased about a "major announcement" being made at E3. It hasn't been confirmed that it will be regarding the future of Dead Island 2, but fans have remained hopeful. Either way, we're all happy that Dead Island 2 has resumed development after a lengthy hiatus.

Tomb Raider Movie Casts Alicia Vikander As Lara Croft
Alicia Vikander, who won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in The Danish Girl, will be the next person to play Lara Croft on the big screen! Despite rumors that Daisy Ridley would take on the role, it has been confirmed that Alicia Vikander has secured her position as the new Lara Croft. The film franchise will is undergoing a total reboot since the last Tomb Raider film starring Angelina Jolie was released in 2003. Alicia Vikander has a big role to fill and I simply cannot see her comparing to Jolie. Hopefully, Vikander will surprise us all and revive the ever beloved Tomb Raider series and ensure future sequels!

Nice edition of the news, as always!

And holy crap the amount of announcement threads, all my omni. That's a lotta pink.
No wonder the news gets no attention any more.

This was over a week late.

This was over a week late.

I had decided to skip last week. Had exams all last week and this week. The days I had free time, HF was offline for me. Skipped it altogether. We merged last week's and this week's content. I won't put HF News ahead of my education so if you truly think that's the reason why there's not much interest, so be it.

There was no reason for another member not to publish it seeing as you've done that in the previous editions.

Also only a handful of sections were merged, most others just did the minimum for one week.

Every leader gets lazy eventually, just ask VD, he knows all about that.

The answer to why I had to publish it is in the memo. I made changes that no other member could have incorporated just yet because the templates were not complete. Busy != Lazy

Those handful sections are HF-related sections, the core sections of HF News.

guess some news just gets passed over or is you guys just pick and choose what to post.

Depends, could you be more specific? Is there something that should've been in the news? The three most common reasons are 1) Reported on/after Friday 2) Not notable to be in the news 3) Journalist simply missed it.

The graphic designer couldn't have posted it in the forum?

The idea could've waited a week?

So many possibilities and you decided to just not post for a week, that's just lazy.
