Oldest Bacteria Ever Encountered Discovered
From a long-buried Scandinavian mass grave comes this ancient strain of bacterium. However, this isn't just any old bacteria, it is of the strain that caused the black plague. This strain, known as Yersinia pestis, was responsible for extreme population declines in Europe during the fourteenth century. This discovery is most important because scientists are continuously working to track down the origins of this horrific disease. They now know to concentrate their search in Sweden. One day we may even have the exact origins should this lead be fruitful. >>Source

Wasp Venom has Been Given new Purpose
As with most insects, the wasp's venom contains the ability to fight off bacteria. The only issue with it being everything else that comes along with it. A team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has found a way to isolate this toxin with the unique ability to eradicate bacterium. They have also managed to reverse engineer the compound into a serum that is entirely non-toxic to humans. This will most certainly have implications in the medical field, should this serum get approved for wider use. >>Source

Kellogg’s to start producing beer made from leftover cornflakes
Kellogg’s, a food-manufacturing company based out of Battle Creek, Michigan, is said to begin the manufacturing of beer made from rejected cornflakes. This decision arose from concerned consumers worrying about their carbon footprint. In a bid to ease their guilt over today’s environment, those interested will soon be able to drink a beer based solely from cereal deemed unworthy. Shoppers are worrisome in today’s age about the environment and impact their habits entail, which is why companies have found creative methods to minimize food waste. The multinational food company is the latest to join in. Throw Away IPA, “made by Seven Bro7thers Brewery in Manchester, uses ‘upcycled’ cornflakes which are too big, small or overcooked to go in a box of breakfast cereal as a proportion of the wheat grain which goes into the beer.”

A spokesperson for Kellogg’s said that approximately 30 percent of the beer’s grain content would consist of cornflakes, where wheat accounts for the remaining 70 percent. The cornflakes will be added during the ‘mash’ process of beer making and are supposed to sweeten the taste significantly. The IPA’s color matches accordingly, shaded ‘cornflake golden.’ Kate Prince, social responsibility manager for Kellogg’s UK, said: ‘Kellogg’s is always exploring different and sustainable ways to reduce food waste in its factories. So it is great to be involved in such a fun initiative with a local supplier.’ Prince went on to further state that the company is working readily to eliminate food waste in their manufacturing process, and to produce their products while having a very minuscule impact on the planet. This most recent implementation has already reduced food waste in their UK sites by 12.5 percent. >>Source

China allegedly holding 800k to 2m Muslims in internment camps
According to the United States Department of State official Scott Busby, since April 2017, Chinese officers have detained no less than 800,000 to 2 million Uighurs and placed them in internment camps. Uighurs are an ethnic group of Kazakhs, in other words, Muslim minorities, and have been targeted relentlessly by Chinese authorities for differing in religion from the state’s forced upon Chinese Buddhism. Reports from the State Department suggest that most detainees are not being charged with crimes to keep their whereabouts unknown, leaving relatives with little to no information about their loved ones. Busby told the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee on Tuesday that, “Former detainees who have reached safety have spoken of relentless indoctrination and harsh conditions.” Busby continued by saying that the believed goal is to force detainees to renounce their beliefs in Islam and to worship the Chinese communist party.

“Mihrigul Tursun, a Uighur mother who survived one of the Chinese re-education camps,” told the committee about her experience and how she tortured and interrogated during her internment, additionally stating that one of her young children died while in Chinese government custody. On the 4th of December, Busy said that life outside of the internment camps is not much better and that Muslim neighborhoods have entry and exit points being stationed by armed police officers. The circumstances have gone so far as to being forced to allow Chinese officials into their homes for extended periods at a time. A large portions of the mosques have been ‘shuttered or destroyed’ – some even being converted into ‘communist propaganda centers.’ Busby continued to describe how China has continuously harassed and intimidated ethnic Muslim minority groups. This is only one large “crackdown on religious and philosophical disagreement with the ruling party.” >>Source

SpaceX cargo arrives at the International Space Station
The SpaceX delivery on Saturday arrived successfully, delivering a batch of Christmas goodies for those who live on the International Space Station. The Dragon capsule pulled up at the orbiting lab three days after launching from Cape Canaveral. Commander Alexander Gerst used the space station's big robotic arm to grab the cargo carrier, as the two craft soared 250 miles above the Pacific. It took two attempts for the Dragon capsule to get close enough to capture, as NASA was required to call off the first approach as there were major troubles with the communication network which was relaying to the space station. Equipment failure resulted in a temporary loss of communication with the station. >>Source

Britain planning on creating a network of surveillance satellites
If the UK leaves the EU following Brexit, it is planning on putting full effort into "Project Oberon," a new cluster of satellites which takes surveillance technology to new heights. The government's defence lab is developing this new technology, which will be able to capture extremely high-resolution images at both 2D and 3D. One of the reasons for this technology being developed is for the Ministry of Defence, who require an increased ability to conduct intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance operations if they were to leave the EU. >>Source

TOPIC: There’s been a recent spike in off-site impersonators that pretend to be trusted HF members in order to scam as much money as they can. What do you think about this type of scam? Have you been impersonated recently?

~Banter.

"I have 5 skype imposters. One had scammed at least $300"

"I'm quite insulted that I have not been impersonated yet, atleast I haven't been made aware of any impersonators. I think if anyone gets scammed by this person(s) who is going around impersonating all these reputable members, they clearly did not follow any HF marketplace rules and therefore I feel no sorrow or pity towards them."
