Issue #54
It's difficult to change the world on your own, but twisting it a little might not be all that hard.

Street Meet Up Helps Otaku Socialize
It's fair to say many Otaku are often understood. Yes, they (we?) have an obsession with anime and manga, but its just a passion. We don't make fun of musicians for this, or any other person, but one thing that doesn't help them in their cause is that they don't spend time properly socializing enough. Going outside and talking is often missing and so it becomes hard to actually talk to people. Although we may be an Editor of AA Weekly or have hundreds of Skype friends, they can't actually talk to people outside. A new event has been created just for people like that! Animachicon looks to bring together all fans of anime, games, manga and anything else associated with a 'Otaku'. "Animachicon in Akihabara" is where it started in May with an approach of speed dating. Quick minute to talk and make friends, then onto the next. A total of 104 males attended with 102 females. So it wasn't just a wiener fest! Animachicon has begun expanding already with its huge popularity, with future events already lined up. Good luck Otakus!

Artist Recreates World Cup Teams as Anime Girls
The world Cup is close to finishing, with the final this week, but one artist has gone above and beyond and recreated all the teams as anime girls. Each team has their own looks and unique characteristics and it really does look good. There isn't much to say about this as the pictures speak a thousand words themselves, so check them out yourself!

AKB48 Shaking Hands Again - With Big Bodyguards
In a past issue, I wrote about the fact that two of the AKB48 members were injured in a crazed saw attack. A fan jumped up on stage and began swinging a saw, and was convicted for attempted murder. Now the girls are back at it and shaking hands again, but under heavy watch. A guard stays very close by, close enough to touch you if you do anything more than shake hands. Then there's large railing splitting you up, so you need to jump over to be able to do anything to the member. Some fans compare it to a prison visit and it is no longer 'fun'. If that was not enough, guards also check your bags just to make sure nothing bad is being carried around. Want to meet one of the many members? Get in line!

Synopsis

By its eleventh expansion pack, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Elder Tale has become a global success, having a following of millions of players. However, during the release of its twelfth expansion pack: Novasphere Pioneers, thirty thousand Japanese gamers who are all logged on at the time of the update, suddenly find themselves transported inside the game world and donning their in-game avatars. In the midst of the event, a socially awkward gamer called Shiroe along with his friends Naotsugu and Akatsuki decide to team up so that they may face this world which has now become their reality along with the challenges which lie ahead.

Characters

Shiroe "Villain in Glasses, Shiroe the Strategist"
Because his character is taller than his real self, he will trip occasionally. He was once the strategist of a group called Debauchery Tea Party, a small group that never formed a guild but completed several raids. Due to unexplained circumstances, he chooses not to join a guild. He will, however, help those in need, even if it's a guild affair.

Akatsuki
Before the Apocalypse, she played as a male character. Because of this, she didn't use voice chat to speak with other players. After drinking Shiroe's Appearance-changing potion, she adjusted her character to be closer to her real self. Because Shiroe gave her the potion, she feels it necessary to repay him as an assassin and reveres him as "my Lord."

Naotsugu
A friend of Shiroe who hasn't played Elder Tale for the past two years. The size of his character is 183 cm, which is the same as his real self. He refers to himself as an "open pervert", so he always speaks his mind when there's girls involved. Because of this, Akatsuki knees him in the face whenever he says something rude.

Tails' Opinion
At first, I liked Log Horizon. I thought it was an interesting twist to the "SAO" trapped in a game story line. I know others have done it but SAO is the most popular right now. Anyway, at first I liked it because it was different, it was more about the game and them adapting to their current situation instead of crying and having only the goal of clearing it. Instead, it was about making the best out of the situation. But it got kinda boring. The twist weren't that interesting, the risks weren't really there, or that serious. The actual story was average at best. It honestly failed to hold my interest for very long and I couldn't watch more than like 3 episodes at a time.
I give the Story a 4/10.

Now the art was a similar story, it was average. I didn't hate it and at some times I thought it was kinda good. However, overall the art wasn't anything to marvel at.
I give the Art a 5/10.

Then are the characters. Because of the story and the plot the characters actually have to be the driving force behind this show. Unfortunately they really aren't. Shiroe is probably the only character the actually develops throughout the entire story and is probably the only actually interesting character. Everyone else just is kinda there.
Overall, I give the characters a 4/10.

Programmargorp's Opinion
Originally written by Touno Mamare, who also wrote Maoyuu Maou Yuusha and Ishihira Shinji, who has directed other high key shows such as Fairy Tail and Soul Eater with the studio that completed White Album 2 and Total Eclipse come the star of today’s review.
Log Horizon.

Airing in Fall 2013 (Which is known to me as God Season 2013), comes something that smells like Sword Art Online, looks like Sword Art Online, heck, reeks of Sword Art Online; but isn’t Sword Art Online. If there’s one thing you should take from this review, is that the best way to describe Log Horizon is that it’s NOT Sword Art Online. Although it attempted to mix the tastes of both Type A and Type B anime watchers in the same series, that backfired quite hard; I’ll get to that in a second.

Log Horizon follows the exploits of Shiroe (quite literally) in the world of Elder Tale after a large number of players was found trapped in the game. Now, you might think think “YOOOOO, DAT SAO”, and you can’t be more wrong; Log Horizon focuses more on politics and making the best of your situation, while SAO was about whacking everything with a big black sword. While this story did make quite a bit of sense, I personally felt that it suffered from pacing issues where things happened way too slowly.
I mean like, the amount of needless banter that seems to be present in the story is quite excessive and can easily be cut down without really affecting the story. That said, the story wasn’t THAT bad.
Story wise, I rate this a 5/10

The main problem with Log Horizon is the one dimensional characters that aren’t really developed. Aside from Shiroe, Akatsuki is the stereotypical Tsundere female lead, Naotsugu is the stereotypical early on story development character that becomes useless later on, Mimori is the stereotypical annoying character. Practically all the “lead” characters got little to no development; Shiroe was pretty much the only redeeming fact for Type B watchers.
Character wise, I rate this a 3/10

The art of Log Horizon is bland and simple, which you might argue that it reflects the style of the work quite well. However like I said before, the art is bland and lacking, the action scenes were not as great as they should have been, general detail is below average. While it wasn’t eye cancer inducing, it wasn’t above average in any way.
Art wise, I rate this a 4/10

Concluding this review, Log Horizon attempted to attack both Type A and Type B watchers in the same show, but as a result fell short of both. While it’s based on an interesting premise, it suffered heavy development problems similar to SAO.
Overall, I rate this: Better than SAO/10

Tails' Rating 6/10
Programmargorp's Rating 4/10

Note: This weeks loli of the week contains spoilers for Hayate no Gotoku!

Nagi. Nagi is our loli of the week this week. This is one loli you don't want to approach half heartily. Nagi is only 13, standing at 138 cm. She is very short, sports blonde twin tails with dark green eyes. She is a typical young girl, even though she is rich and possesses her own mansion. The amount of money her family possesses is so large that throwing away twenty trillion yen isn't that big of a deal.

Through out the series, Nagi is shown to be wearing a range of clothes that suit her personality extremely well. She often wears dresses and one pieces, shorts, t shirts and hoodies. She is a tomboy. Just like any normal girl at the age of 13, right? Not something you'd expect from someone as rich as her. This is what separates Nagi from the generic rich, snobby characters found within the 2D world.

Despite her family's position and wealth, Nagi is actually an Otaku. She loves Manga to the extent of drawing and writing her own, watches Anime and plays video games till early morning. She is anti-social/socially withdrawn. As any Otaku, Nagi dislikes school to the extent of going in every other month for a day. She dislikes a lot of things, a few strange things would be learning, being kidnapped, losing and anyone who likes Hayate, her butler.

As for Nagi's romance, or whatever 13 year old girls call it (lets go with crush, shall we?), she is infatuated with Hayate. She mistook his attempt to kidnap her on their first meeting as a confession. Because of this, she took her relationship with him as that of lovers while he thinks of it as a master-servant relationship. Yes, it's complicated but let her enjoy her own innocence!

Nagi is one of the most caring, love filled loli (please, please, please do not take this the wrong way) you will come across. She owns a white Tiger that she picked up as a child while on holiday to South Africa, she mistook it for a cat. Yes, a cat. She raised Tama with so much love that he gained the ability to talk and walk on his back legs. That's right folks, a walking talking cat.

Series: Hayate no Gotoku!, Hayate the Combat Butler, ハヤテのごとく!

Every week, you can vote on a poll for your next loli of the week. This way we can vote and admire them together as well as seeing who the most popular is between the AA! For next week, you can vote for either:

Kotori "Commander, Efreet" Itsuka, from Date A Live II.
Mariko "Number 35" Kurama, from Elfen Lied.

Really love the World Cup Anime girls, wish they would do things like that for everything. Would make the internet a pleasant place. Great issue, shame we had a few submissions missing, but we shall move forward!

Great AA Weekly as always!
Missed this a lot the last couple of weeks, glad to see it back! Loved the Eir Aoi video

And I'm not sure but the picture for Naotsugu is actually a picture of Poppo from Anohana

lol oops. You would be correct. Lets get a fix to that real quick. Guess my eyes were steal teary from my remembering of AnoHana. 😭
I like that quote from Bakemonogatari. I've never seen that anime but from the reviews I skimmed through, apparently its pretty good. I'm assuming romance plays a big role in this since its one guy and five girls but romance anime isn't really my cup of tea. If anyone highly recommends it, I'll watch it.

The artist who made those world cup anime girls has some serious skills. That Australian one had me rolling 🤣

The words otaku and socialize in the same sentence seems like a bit of a contradiction don't you think? I like how Animachicon is trying to get people to go outside but there's no reason to do that when you have the internet.

That Bedroom Tape song was pretty depressing. I have no idea what he was saying but from the context of the video, I can only assume that chick left him because he posted their "bedroom tape" on pornhub or something.

Maybe. I just found the song really cute and out of pace to most songs I listen to.
Another HQ weekly! I love reading these. they're always really interesting.
