I had already a mild interest in Japanese culture, however from watching anime I do find that I've become more fond of it and eager to find more about it. Also handy to say "baka" to myself if I do something stupid, get hurt, or feel the need to release some anger instead of swearing in front of family/friends ;)

Also when you say the "guess who said this" segment at the top, do you mean an anime character or an AA member?

Although I'd say anime has somewhat helped or maybe motivated me to an extent, I always had an interest in Japanese culture or more specifically, East Asian culture. I like to joke about but I do have Asian family and I am part Asian so I took a interest in this long before anime was a thing to me.
I don't really care that much about Japanese culture. Personally I feel like anime exists like it does because life in Japan is shit and they want to escape it with anime and games. I mean, I don't hate the culture or anything, samurai are cool and I'd like to know more about that type of history, but not any more than I care about knights and European history.

On a side note

long swords > katanas

polearms > swords
I am more interested in the geographical part along with design in Japan, but I would say that anime has helped that out.
Otaku culture > Japanese culture
I never had an interest. Still don't and don't expect to.

In a way where sometimes if a certain event, historic figure, etc. is mentionned and it picks my curiosity, I'll Google it and read what I find. I also find myself reading various articles about Japan and Anime/Manga from time to time. Honestly, I would visit Japan if I could visit one of these typical city you see in every highschool Anime: the neighborhood, the school, parks, shopping district, etc.

My era of providing technical support and malware removal on HackForums is over, so you can stop PM'ing me about it. Sorry.

"This isn't like my Japanese cartoons!" is probably the first thing you'd say when you go to Japan.

It's from an anime. Guess the character who said the quote.
I take a personal interest in Japanese suicide.

Ah ok, and would it be Naota from FLCL?

Yup! You got it!
Yes, since watching anime, I have taken more of an interest in Japanese culture.
That would be my choice for this one. Ever since I started watching anime regularly a few years ago, I also started to get a little more interested in the Japanese culture and so I found some really neat channels on YouTube that even today I frequently watch. I like their language, their culture and the country overall.
I even bought an app on the phone which I used from time to time to learn some of the language. Didn't really keep up with it since I got occupied with other things but in the future, I'd really love to visit Japan. All of this began from anime.
Since we are talking about taking trips
