Purpose

This project preserves the events covered in each Hack Forums News edition — site changes, member awards, group activity, notable threads, and the writers behind each edition — as machine-readable JSON. By keeping a curated mirror offsite, the archive ensures the history survives thread deletions, account closures, nuclear explosions, and any other future changes to the site.

Features:
  • 560+ editions covered, going all the way back to Edition 1 (2010).
  • 7,100+ individual events — site announcements, awards, group changes, notable threads, contests, contributors, and more.
  • An event web viewer with full-text search, user filter (by username or UID), category filter, date range, and sortable order.
  • Fully open source — everything is in a public GitHub repo, including the raw post/blog data the events are curated from.
  • Editions tab to quickly access all previous editions
  • Statistics tab that aggregates activity related statistics over time

Missing editions

32 editions could not be archived because the source thread or blog post was deleted, junked, or never captured before the archive was started. These editions exist as numbers only — no raw data, no curated events:

Code
14, 15, 340, 341, 359, 472, 485, 486, 487, 488, 504, 512, 513, 514,
515, 516, 517, 518, 519, 520, 521, 522, 523, 524, 525, 526, 527, 528,
529, 530, 531, 532

Edition 359 still has a thread link in editions.csv, but its first post was junked, so no usable content remains. If you happen to have a saved copy of any of these, please drop a reply — even a screenshot is a good starting point.

This is amazing. I actually go back to random threads from 15+ years ago sometimes in the Site News just to read old news threads.

High quality project xadamxk
Don't fall for a scam, use a middleman!

Unfortunately I can’t fix the nonexistent threads :(

It is cool to see all these past events though. Slightly bummed the HF News was cancelled for several years around 2021-2022
Very cool project, was nice serching my name and some others here, love it!
The risk of not taking risk is riskier than comfort.

Never Deal Off-Site!
Very nice project.
Lets go xadamxk The first step is here and released. Soon I can work with this to add the the HF Wiki, and I am sure tohers will find a use for this as well. Great work as always.

Well done! Always a pleasure to see projects you create for HF.

Spent a bit of time today cleaning up events, adding missing contributors, and building out a basic UI to view all of the HF News Contributors from over the years. Sadly only a handful of the high contributors are still around on the site but I plan to honor them here in 2 weeks.

Here's the top of the list (that you can view using the tool now):

Great project my friend, HF News was a very solid project led very strictly by Hydra. Great to see this put together.
Space echoes like an immense tomb, yet the stars still burn. Why does the sun take so long to die?
Had no idea that one of my threads was featured in HF News back in the day :D
